Small Business Marketing in Spokane: What Actually Works in 2026
Most Spokane businesses don't have a marketing problem. They have a money-placement problem.
I manage ad accounts for businesses across Spokane, Spokane Valley, and North Idaho. Auto glass shops, flooring stores, gyms, coffee shops, dealerships, home builders. I also run ads for national ecommerce brands, and combined, the brands I've worked with have sold over $47 million in products online. I'm telling you that up front so you know these numbers come from real ad accounts, not a blog written to fill space.
Here's what I see over and over: a local business spending real money every month and getting almost nothing back, not because marketing doesn't work in Spokane, but because the money is in the wrong places.
Let's fix that.
Where Spokane businesses waste marketing money
Three places, same story every time.
Boosted posts. The boost button is the most profitable button Meta ever built, for Meta. Boosting a post buys you likes from people who will never call you. Real ad campaigns built in Ads Manager with a conversion objective cost the same and are built to produce leads, not applause.
Agencies that sell activity instead of results. If your monthly report talks about impressions, reach, and engagement but never mentions cost per lead or revenue, you're paying for a slideshow. Impressions don't fix your schedule. Booked jobs do.
Doing a little of everything. A little radio, a little print, a boosted post here, a sponsorship there. Spread $2,000 across five channels and no channel gets enough money to actually work. Concentration beats variety at local budgets.
What actually works: Facebook and Instagram ads for Spokane businesses
For most local businesses in Spokane, Meta ads (Facebook and Instagram) are the highest-leverage dollars you can spend. Not because Meta is magic, but because of math: nearly every one of your customers is on those apps daily, and you can put an offer in front of exactly the people within driving distance of your shop.
Real ranges from local accounts I manage or have audited:
Most local service businesses can generate leads for $15 to $60 per lead on Meta when the campaign is built right
Gyms and fitness studios typically land in the $20 to $50 per lead range for trial or membership offers
Big-ticket home services (flooring, remodels, custom work) run higher per lead, but one closed job can pay for months of advertising
When a Spokane business tells me "we tried Facebook ads and they didn't work," the autopsy almost always finds one of three things: a boosted post instead of a real campaign, no tracking (so winners and losers were invisible), or a weak offer. Which brings me to the part most agencies skip.
Your offer matters more than your ad
People don't ignore ads because they hate ads. They ignore ads that don't give them a reason to act today.
"Quality service since 1998" is not an offer. "Free rock chip repair with any windshield replacement this month" is an offer. "$1 first week" is an offer. "Free design consult, this week only" is an offer.
Before you spend another dollar on distribution, get the offer right. A strong offer with average ads beats beautiful ads with no offer every single time. This is buyer psychology, not design.
How much should a Spokane business spend on advertising?
The honest answer: enough to actually learn something.
$1,000 to $2,500 per month is the realistic starting range for a local Spokane business running Meta ads. Below that, you're not buying enough data to find what works.
$2,500 to $7,500 per month is where businesses with proven offers scale. At this level, the ads should be measurably paying for themselves.
Whatever the number, commit to 90 days. The first month is finding the winning audience and creative. Judging ads after two weeks is like judging a gym membership after two workouts.
If you can't commit $1,000 a month for three months, don't run paid ads yet. Spend that energy on the free stuff first.
The free stuff: your Google Business Profile
Before paid ads, claim and build out your free Google Business Profile. When someone in Spokane searches for what you do, that map pack at the top of the results is where the calls come from. Complete every field, add real photos monthly, and ask every happy customer for a review. Reviews are the highest-ROI marketing activity in local business, and they cost nothing but a text message asking for one.
The fastest revenue fix nobody talks about: speed to lead
Here's the one that stings. I've seen Spokane businesses pay for leads and then call them back two days later. By then, that lead has hired your competitor.
Call every lead within five minutes and your close rate multiplies. Not improves. Multiplies. If you fix nothing else after reading this, fix this one for free.
DIY or hire a Spokane marketing agency?
You can absolutely run your own marketing if you have the hours and the stomach for testing. Plenty of owners do early on.
Hire help when the math says to: when an hour of your time at your trade is worth more than an hour fighting Ads Manager, or when you've got budget burning with nothing to show for it.
If you do hire, here's how not to get burned:
Ask what they measure. The right answer involves cost per lead and revenue. The wrong answer involves impressions and "brand awareness."
Ask who actually runs your account. At most agencies, you're pitched by the owner and handed to a junior. Ask the person across the table if they personally build and manage the campaigns.
Avoid long contracts. Anyone confident in their results doesn't need to lock you in for 12 months.
Ask for a specific example in a business like yours. Not a logo wall. A real story with real numbers.
Frequently asked questions
How much do Facebook ads cost for a Spokane business? Expect $15 to $60 per lead for most local services with a properly built campaign, and plan a minimum budget of $1,000 to $2,500 per month to get meaningful results.
How long until advertising starts working? Give any paid channel 90 days. Month one is testing, months two and three are scaling what won. Anyone promising results in week one is selling you something.
Do I need a marketing agency, or can I do it myself? If you have the time to learn and test, start yourself. Hire out when your time is worth more at your trade than in Ads Manager, or when you've already spent money with nothing to show for it.
What's the single best free marketing move for a local business? Build out your Google Business Profile and ask every happy customer for a review. Then answer your leads within five minutes.
The bottom line
Marketing works in Spokane. It works for auto glass shops, gyms, flooring stores, coffee shops, and every local business where one new customer is worth real money. It fails when the dollars are scattered, the offer is weak, and nobody's measuring.
