How to Start a Car Giveaway as a Creator
If you're an automotive creator thinking about your first car or truck giveaway, this is the playbook I use after running 25+ of them. Prize, store, merch, rules, ads, email and the timeline, in the order you actually need to figure them out. Globe Throttle Marketing can run the whole thing with you or just the parts you don't want to touch.
Step 1: Check if your audience is ready
Follower count measures reach. It doesn't measure trust, and trust is what converts. Ask yourself:
- Do people comment like they know you, or just drop fire emojis?
- Have you sold anything before, even merch, and did it move?
- Would your audience believe you'd actually hand over the keys?
I've seen two creators with a million followers each run the same playbook and get opposite results. The difference was almost always the relationship, not the size.
Step 2: Pick a prize that fits your buyer
The prize should match what your audience already dreams about. A diesel truck audience wants the truck, not a random supercar. A prize that's too generic pulls sweepstakes hunters who enter once and never buy again. A prize that fits pulls your real fans, who buy merch, join the list and come back for the next one.
Also think about prize cost against realistic revenue. Work backward: prize, taxes and fees, store and ad costs, then the profit you want. That tells you what the campaign needs to do.
Step 3: Build the buy to enter store
- Shopify store that loads fast on mobile. Slow stores quietly kill paid traffic.
- Merch people actually want to wear. Design quality sells entries. Afterthought shirts don't.
- Entry bundles that raise average order value. Same traffic, completely different campaign math.
- Free alternate method of entry and official rules on the site.
Step 4: Handle the rules
Buy to enter giveaways need a no purchase necessary entry option, official rules, eligibility, start and end dates and odds language. New York and Florida require registration and bonding when total prizes are over $5,000. Meta and Instagram have their own promotion rules too. I'm not a lawyer, so get a sweepstakes attorney to review before launch.
Step 5: Set up tracking before you spend a dollar
Meta Pixel, Conversions API and UTMs need to be firing correctly on purchase. If the ad platform is fed bad data, it optimizes toward the wrong people and you'll blame the giveaway for a tracking problem.
Step 6: Launch ads and content together
Your organic posts build hype. Paid ads put that content in front of the right buyers at scale. The best giveaways run both, with partnership ads from your own handle, since your face sells better than a brand page. For the ad side, see Facebook ads for giveaways.
Step 7: Win the deadline
Most revenue lands in the final days. Real deadlines, email and SMS sequences and retargeting do the work there. Fake urgency and constant 10x entry promos don't. I haven't seen real data showing entry multipliers beat not using them, and buyers increasingly read them as a gimmick.
Common first giveaway mistakes
- Spending on ads before tracking works
- Cheap merch with no design effort
- No email or SMS list building from day one
- Picking a prize your audience doesn't actually want
- Judging the campaign on ROAS alone instead of total profit

Frequently asked questions
How do I start a car giveaway as an influencer?
Confirm your audience trusts you enough to buy, pick a prize that fits them, build a fast buy to enter store with good merch and bundles, set up official rules and a free entry method, get tracking working, then launch ads and content with a strong deadline push.
How many followers do I need to run a car giveaway?
There's no magic number. Audience trust matters more than size. Brand new companies with zero followers have crushed giveaways, and million follower accounts have flopped.
How long should a car giveaway run?
Long enough to build momentum and run several real deadline pushes, without dragging so long that the audience goes cold. The right length depends on prize, spend and list size.
Do I need a business to run a giveaway?
You should run it through a business entity with proper rules, payment processing and tax handling. Talk to an attorney and accountant before launch.
Can you run my whole giveaway for me?
Yes. Globe Throttle Marketing can run ads, store setup, email and SMS, landing pages and creative strategy, or just the parts you want handed off.
